British vets are some of the most stressed in the world, according to new survey results.
Data collated by CM Research from a panel of more than 600 vets working in the UK showed 95% reported being stressed on a daily basis.
Broken down, figures from Vetsurvey 2018 showed 15% are “very stressed”, 44% are “somewhat stressed” and 36% are a “little stressed” every day of their working lives.
The survey also showed more than 80% of the UK profession has thought about leaving to get a better work-life balance.
It also appears vets are less well off than they were 12 months ago, with the average wage of respondents now £42,000, down from £43,000 in 2017.
‘Implosion point’
CM Research managing director Carlos Michelsen believes a combination of high stress levels and static or falling salaries could have dramatic and far-reaching impacts.
He said: “The stresses and time pressures on vets is going to get bigger and bigger in the UK, and there is going to be an implosion point where there is going to be a rapid decline in the number of vets who are going to be in practice.”
