Shottle Hall in Derbyshire was transformed into Wonderland for a themed ball, with a bespoke menu based on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale comprising the Cheshire Cat’s favourite cheesy fishcake as a starter, the Duchess’ little sneezing piggy as a main and the Queen of Hearts’ Eton mess for dessert.

Games and prizes

Many local businesses donated a selection of raffle prizes to boost funds, including a photography shoot and framed artwork from Mackney Photography.

To get their hands on the prizes, guests had to play a variety of games, including a mad hat competition, a “whisky roll”, a quiz and a raffle.

The event was supported by local band Hands On, DJ Sam from Derby Discos, Ginger Photography and Fluid Design.

Support

Wendy Furness, equine vet and partner at Scarsdale Vets, said: “This ball was a fantastic way to support the great work of the Air Ambulance Service, and we were delighted we were able to raise £3,800 for this extremely worthwhile cause.

“The ball committee worked very hard to put on an excellent event, so thank you to everyone who attended and, of course, to the local businesses that donated raffle prizes.”
