More than 100 cats were neutered as part of an annual multi-agency drive aimed at owners on low incomes.
The neutering day was hosted by Peterborough and Bretton Vets4Pets, in conjunction with its local Cats Protection and RSPCA branches, and targeted owners who were struggling to afford to get their cats neutered or may not have previously visited a veterinary practice.
Volunteers
Vets and RVNs from numerous local practices gave up their Sunday to take part, while Cats Protection and RSPCA volunteers weighed cats and cleaned equipment.
Owners secured a place with a £10 deposit, which was used to pay for a microchip or donated to the charities, or refunded.
‘Significant dent in population’
The neutering day has been held annually for the past five years, with this year’s event the largest to date.
Vets4Pets vet and practice partner Holly Norman said: “We’d like to think we have made a significant dent in the Peterborough cat population – just think how many litters have been prevented.
“We have to say a big thank you to Burtons for loaning us an extra anaesthesia machine, as well as Elanco, Dechra and IMS for providing drugs and consumables free of charge.”
