Figure 8. Chronic oronasal fistula presentation. This miniature schnauzer previously had several extractions performed to treat extensive periodontal disease. Although the oronasal fistula was identified at the time of extractions, the area was left to heal by secondary intention. Oronasal fistulae will not heal this way and are easier to repair with a mucoperiosteal flap at the time of identification.
