Note minimal gingival inflammation is present, and the moderate to severe inflammation presents as mucositis and caudal stomatitis. This caudal inflammation is typical for this disease. In cats, this is generally very painful and they often salivate, which is noticeable as discolouration of the fur around the mouth.
